New Year's Day Singles Party at Richard's Edwardstown home is a legendary event. He has held them each year for over twenty years. The delightful backyard of his large restored bungalow is an entertainers dream come true. Under the shady canopies of a massive Walnut tree and it's baby brother, a lovely Crepe Myrtle, partygoers blend into a fabulous manicured garden surrounding a huge swiming pool.
The format nowadays is a shared dinner. Guests arrive from 2 PM, bringing with them a generous plate of food to share, along with drinks and a chair. Following an afternoon of conversation with a group of very friendly people we sound the dinner gong at 6 PM and form a line to partake of what is usually quite a banquet.
After dinner we party into the evening with great dance music in his large rumpus room. If the weather is hot a refreshing dip in the swimming pool helps some people to cool off.
Attendance numbers haven't waned at all over the years with around eighty guests attending. Many of them are still in party mode from the previous night's New Year's Eve events, some of them a bit bleary eyed but nonetheless ready willing to enjoy themselves.
The party at Richard's home is always our first event of the year. Its always very successful and it sets the stage for much more to come.
