Bob's New Year's Eve Party Venue Details

Bob McCracken is holding a New Year's Eve party for us and it promises to be a huge event. Many of us have been to parties at his Somerton Park home before and they've always been packed. A slight change of plan, though. In view of the large attendance expected, Bob will instead hold his party at the Warradale home of a friend. It has a huge yard, a swimming pool and ample dance room. Leonie's Party Date Changed

Leonie had planned to hold a shared lunch around the swimming pool of her new Netley home on Sunday 18th March. She has now discovered that another function she particularly wants to attend is on that date, so she has brought hers forward to Sunday 11th March. She has gained a reputation for holding a great party in the past and this one will no doubt be a winner.

Joanne's New Christian Single Events To Commence 09/02/07

Joanne will commence her new series of events called "Single Bingle" at her South Plympton home on 9th February 2007 from 7.30 PM until 11 PM. The format will be a viewing of an interesting Christian video (around 40 minutes) followed by spontaneous discussion and then supper. Guests can be any age up to sixty years. Bring a plate of supper and a drink. Bookings can be made through Gareth at this stage.

Susie's Party Deferred

Susie has been forced to defer the house party she had planned for Saturday 10th February. This will be a disappointment for her as well as us as she was very much looking forward to holding the event. We accept her sincere apologies and have no doubt that she will re-schedule as soon as she is able to.

Viv's Party was Well attended

Around fifty people attended the Shared Lunch / House-warming at Viv's Oaklands Park home last Sunday. The weather was mild and windy, but in her sheltered backyard that wasn't a problem. Many thanks to her for welcoming us into her lovely home.

Richard's BBQ/House Party Fundraiser Was A Winner

Around 120 people attended Richard's BBQ/House Party last Saturday night. The weather was quite mild and in the tradition we are used to, his Edwardstown backyard buzzed and hummed all evening with the sounds of conversation, music and dancing.

The event raised $580, of which $400 was donated to the Adelaide Zoo, $140 was given to the Chinese Moon Bear Rescue Appeal and $40 went to the Port River Dolphin appeal.

This type of event is an extremely successful way for people to meet other single people in a relaxed environment. Its a great deal better then the bar and 'meat market' scene.

Shared Lunches Steam Ahead

One of our greatest success stories is the Shared Lunches held usually on Sundays at our member's homes. Last Sunday 26th February, that success continued unabated with an attendance of fifty people at Pam's Hazelwood Park home. Her expansive backyard provided a perfect setting to relax with a drink or two and get to know some other single people in a similar age group.

Once again, a good sprinkling of newcomers to our network ensured the atmosphere remained lively and interesting. In the shade of a large pepper tree, on a neatly cut lawn, members reclined in folding chairs, holding plates filled with a selection from the many delightful dishes our guests contributed.

Our next Shared Lunch is on 5th March at Wendy's Athelstone home. The North Adelaide Walking Group will combine their walk and lunch with this function, so it should be a great turnout.

Irish Bush Dance Date Change

Going Places With Gareth always has a couple of tables reserved at the Irish Hall in Carrington Street, Adelaide for the Celtic Music Association's monthly Bush Dance. Its normally held on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 8 PM. Occasionally the date is changed for special reasons.

The date in March has been changed from the 18th to the 11th. If you're a regular attendee, please note this date. If you've never tried this fabulous fun activity, give it a go. Entry is $6. Children are welcome. Wear cool, comfortable clothes.

Celtic Music Cruise Was Wonderful

On a warm, sunny afternoon 500 people aboard the Dolphin Cruises "Explorer" helped to raise a large sum of money to help pay for the new P.A. system in the Irish Association Hall, Carrington Street, Adelaide. 180 of them were Going Places With Gareth network members.

We left Port Adelaide at 2.30 PM and cruised along the Port River almost to Outer Harbour before returning. Bands of Celtic musicians played aboard the boat moving from one level to another. The three-level vessel is huge, easily accomodating the number that were on board. Feedback was extremely positive with smiles all around when the trip ended.

A similar trip is planned for 5th November.

Lee's Party was a nice function

The BBQ/House party at Lee's Ingle farm home on Saturday 28th January proved that you don't need huge numbers to have a great time. Threatening weather and high humidity limited the crowd to around fifty but of those who attended, few left early.

Lee had a huge tarpaulin slung from the pergola to cover most of her lawned area, keeping guests safe from the occasional drizzle. A sizeable number turned up for the BBQ so the party got under way quite early. There wasn't much dancing happening as the close atmosphere sapped our desire for exercise but the buzz of conversation continued all evening.

Once again we welcomed a squad of newcomers into our midst, ensuring the continued growth of our network.

People love the Saturday Night house parties. Coming up in the near future we have a BBQ/House Party at Helen's Oaklands Park home on Saturday 18th February. Richard will hold one of his fundraising parties at the end of March with proceeds going to the Adelaide Zoo and other animal charities.
