Stella's Shared Garden Lunch
15th January 2006

The expansive garden of Stella's Plympton South home is well-manicured and very picturesque. She obviously has a green thumb and a few other gardeners who see it might be a bit green with envy. It was the ideal setting for around fifty single people to meet for one of our highly popular Shared Lunches on a Sunday afternoon.

The guests came with folding chairs tucked under one arm, a generous plate of food in one hand, drinks in the other hand and remaining chattels clutched however possible for what has become a regular ritual in the world of Adelaide's 35 plus Singles. They began arriving at 1 PM and many stayed until after 5 PM when the afternoon's relaxing conversation with pleasant people had satisfied the need to socialise.

As usual, quite a few newcomers attended. This type of function is an ideal way for those who are new to our network to ease themselves into mixing with us. They are casual, relaxed and non-threatening events. No joining fees are required so there is nothing to lose and everything to gain. The friendliness of our members is such that newcomers find themselves easily fitting in to conversation.

The summer weather in Adelaide is very pleasant and on this particular afternoon it was quite warm and mainly sunny. A brief, very light shower did nothing at all to dampen the spirits of the partygoers. If anything, it gave the garden a wonderfully fresh feel.

The spread of food brought by guests was typically magnificent. Cold cuts, casseroles, breads, cheeses, salads and dips were all well represented, along with an array of desserts to please the most enthusiastic appetite. No-one went hungry!

Stella made the perfect host, busily ensuring that all went smoothly. She was delighted with the proceedings and is looking to holding a Saturday night event in the near future.

We have many more of these events planned for the coming months. They continue throughout the year, moving under-cover and sometimes indoors as the cooler weather approaches.

These functions are not a dating or partner-meeting exercise. They are simply designed for single people to meet and mix on a purely friendship level. Of course, cupid is eternally active and invariably we do see couples formed, not to mention the occasional marriage. We are delighted when that happens, but if not, lunch in a lovely garden with a group of nice people is an excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
