The Para Trail Winery Bus tour on 16/11/08 was by all accounts a very enjoyable event. Thirty six of us boarded a luxury coach for the ride to Tanunda.
We arrived at picturesque Chateau Yaldara for a mid-morning coffee break a little behind schedule at 10.30 AM. The sun began to shine after a threatening start, eventually rewarding our faith with a pleasant, sunny day as the temperature climbed to the mid-twenties.
After an hour to relax and get to know each other we proceeded to Para Road, Tanunda where the action was hotting-up.
We began at Langmeil Wines at the bottom of the trail. An excellent seven-piece band "Max Tillage and Erosions" were strutting their stuff to a fair sized crowd with some lively jazz-blues music that was surprisingly easy to dance to. Having a fair contingent of Rock 'n' Rollers on board it wasn't long before some of them got up on the lawn to show their style. Wine was flowing and the food stalls were busy.
An hour or so later some of us ambled along to Peter Lehmann wines. A more subdued band was playing country-style music so we relaxed there for a while.
It's a lovely along the Para trail between the wineries. The wide, grass expanse is where" Barossa Under The Stars" takes place. Large gum trees provide plenty of shade and it's quiet despite so many people being in the area. Some preferred to take the shuttle bus, but the service wasn't as frequent as we had understood.
At Richmond Grove wines long-standing favourite "Cabaret Cabernet" fronted by the highly expressive Chad Romero had drawn a huge crowd and the place was very much alive. Our group was well and truly scattered over the four wineries but everyone had company and many of us met others who we already knew.
Our plan had been to meet at Stanley Lambert Wines at the top of the trail to depart at 3 PM for Chateau Dorrien, however the scattered nature of our group made a mess of that. However, since a very good band "Release The Hounds" were belting out excellent dancing music with an inside area to dance on we slowly collected there and finally departed at 4 PM for home.
The overall consensus was that these events are excellent value and will be well supported in future.
